SHUT. UP.

Sent to the clurb · Mar 2025

Hey Friend,

A few weeks ago my cousin and I realized that we're like, mega compatible when it comes to world views, values, Zodiac signs, and food.

But something she said to me was so unhinged but relatable, "people see me as Bubbles from Power Puff Girls, but my dream job is to be a funeral director."

If this ain't the wildest truth I've heard in a minute lol.

This isn't relatable in the sense that I don't want to be a funeral director (and I'm literally black)–it's the fact that it can be so exhausting to be perceived as one thing when we secretly want to be the polar opposite of how we present.

It took me a while to realize that a lot of my burnout was caused by me constantly embodying chameleon mode while working in the clinic.

First patient: 🙂

Next patient: 🥸

Next next patient: 🤡

Masking, chameleon mode, pretending... etc.

This drains more energy than you think, but sadly it is one of the hardest things to rewire in ourselves–especially if we have a degree in the Arts of People Pleasing to increase our chances to be liked and accepted.

So what do you do when you don't wanna be Bubbles?

First? Just flippin' tell somebody.

Not just in your head while lathering your scalp... But actually putting words to the part of you that’s been waiting to be seen.

That’s what my cousin did. And the second she said it? It became real.

She elaborated as to why she wanted this seemingly morbid occupation and it brought more clarity.

And maybe that’s the whole point.

We don’t just wake up one day and suddenly become our full, unfiltered, funeral directing selves. We find people that we don't need to perform for and start sharing who we really want to be out loud.

And the way you find those people? Ironically, you listen.

When we actually shut up and get borderline creepy curious about people, you'll quickly weed out who will see us for who we really are or who we wanna be.

My cousin and I are both in are 30s and grew up together–and this is the first time we had actually listened to each other to spark a connection that's lead to wild ass conversations.

And a bonus to all of this? NO SMALL TALK. Phew. Win.

So tell me—seriously, tell me–what’s something about you that people would never guess?

✌🏾TTYL!✌🏾

Simie

P.S. I'm working on some cool stuff that's going to help you actually relax when you're "relaxing". You know, so you can actually feel like a rested human being. Stay tuned!

P.P.S. I'm a Leo and she's a Sagittarius. Fun times.
