I didn't want to write you this email...

You know what’s exhausting, friend? Trying to hype yourself up to do the thing you already know you need to do.

By the time you manipulate yourself into doing whatever it is you're avoiding, you’ve already burned half of your brain cells in the Motivational Olympics...

You're mentally pole-vaulting over distractions, while also convincing yourself that 'now’s not the right time', and rewriting your to-do list for the 47th time.

As someone with ADHD, I get it. Starting on boring tasks can feel like climbing out of a tar pit while wearing anvils for shoes just for a mediocre reward.

"Okay, first I’ll clean my desk, then I’ll make tea, then I’ll check my inbox, and THEN I’ll start."

*Cue me getting lost in Discord for an hour.*

Here’s the truth: You will never get to where you want to be if you rely on motivation.

Relying on motivation is like relying on your flaky friend to plan dinner. You say you want to go, but deep down, you’re just waiting for them to cancel so you can stay home and continue rewatching Dexter.

"I don’t feel motivated right now, so I’ll just scroll on my phone until I magically feel like working."

Lmao, can you imagine if a surgeon behaved like that?

"Eh, I don’t really feel like doing this heart transplant right now. Can we reschedule?."

Motivation is unreliable and you don’t need it. What you need is momentum.

The ADHD brain has a superpower—it can give everything attention at the same time. Unfortunately when we don't train it, it's default mode leads to analysis paralysis, decision fatigue, and scattered focus—AKA it creates motivation repellent.

We sit around waiting to feel a sudden jolt of corny "go get em tiger" energy, when in reality, the act of starting is what generates the energy to keep going.

So instead of relying on motivation:

👉🏾 Acknowledge that you don’t wanna do it. There's no point in "shoulding" on yourself—just own it.

👉🏾 Reframe it as a rep. You’re training your brain to do hard things, not waiting for the perfect mood. This doesn't have to be a Rocky scene either.

👉🏾 Limit your options. Pick ONE thing. No mental negotiation, no bargaining with the motivation gods—just start.

I know you already know this, friend. But I'm just going to aggressively remind you that you have to practice doing hard things if you want to grow.

Ironically, I had -13% motivation to write this email. But here it is.

Momentum beats motivation, every time.

What can you do right now to get a quick rep in?

✌🏾TTYL!✌🏾
