A Haiku I wrote for you:

Wouldn’t it be nice?

If no fear came when doing

Or is that empty?

Quick Stuff That Sticks: Understand your fears

Most people demonize fear and believe being fearless is a real thing.

It’s actually not.

If I had a dollar for every time I could’ve shit my pants because I was scared of doing something I wanted to – I’d be an outlier for the diaper customer demographics…

As crippling as fear can be, it’s also the golden turd of internal data points.

Take 2 minutes to understand your fears by acting like a curious 5 year old playing: The “Why?” Series

  • Why haven’t you told them you’re not going to the wedding? Because I don’t want to disappoint my friends
  • Why?
Because I want to be liked…
  • Why?
    Because it feels nice…
  • Why?
Because I still struggle to do what I want without caring what people think…
  • Why?
    Because I’m unsure of myself…
  • Why?
Because I haven’t taken the time to understand what I actually want…

I bet you can relate to everything after that first question and get more specific.

The key to benefiting from The “Why?” Series

  1. Answer without judgement – there's no good or bad answer.
    Just an answer.
  2. Don’t lie to yourself.
  3. Don’t alter your answers to be more socially acceptable.
  4. Keep going until you have a realization – “I don’t know”, doesn’t count.
  5. Collect the facts around the situation – aka a quick pros and cons list.
  6. Choose to do anything but remain the same.

This has always given me the answers I needed to do things that are scary (or suck).

Wiggling on the floor in crippling fear and wishing for things to change while watching YouTube is more painful and tragic than the pain that comes with changing.

Fear is a permanent passenger.

So rather than letting Fear take the wheel, throw that b*tch into a car seat in the back.

Occasionally you’ll make eye contact in the rearview mirror but it’s best for everyone if you keep eyes on the road.

Understand what keeps Fear from hijacking your life and you’ll create a life you want faster than you think.

✌🏾TTYL!✌🏾

P.S. Tried calling my friend to tell them I couldn’t make it to their wedding, but they didn’t pick up. So the next day I sent this long, likely overly polite, text about loving them, sending cash, and requesting an unreasonable number of photos so I could live vicariously through them lol.

P.P.S. Me and my Fear when it’s not strapped in the back seat.
