Read this if you're a cryer.

Hello Friend,

I'm a cryer. I cry when I'm angry and I cry when I'm deeply inspired. Crying is my barometer that reveals something true about myself–I call it my "Cryometer."

During the Grammys, I cried while watching 3 of the most beautiful human beings make history–Beyoncé, Doechii, and Chappell Roan.

If you don't care about any of them, this email will make even more sense to you later. If you do, cool, we can relate.

Either way, this email is gonna give you something easy to learn from for the rest of your life.

Beyoncé: 🏆 Best Country Album 🏆 Album of the Year

I bet you don't think of Beyoncé when you think of country music. Hell, I never even thought of country music–period.

But once 'Cowboy Carter' dropped, I was practically herding cattle with straw in my mouth while the internet was debating over whether or not she should "sTaY iN hEr LaNe."

On accepting the most coveted Grammy Award she said,

"I think 'genre' is a cold word to keep us in our place as artists and I just want to encourage people to do what they're passionate about."

Cryometer: 😭😭😭😭😭

She announced her Cowboy Carter tour on the first day of Black History Month–the day before the Grammy awards–as if to say, "Whatever happens, I've got plans."

But surprisingly, Beyoncé didn’t have me silent-crying like someone on HGTV.

Up next...

Doechii: 🏆 Best Hip-Hop Album

"Who's Doechii?"

Exactly.

Doechii came out of the literal swamps of Florida and is now one of three female artists to win Best Hip-Hop album in the history of its existence since 1989 (and technically it's not even an album).

"I put my heart and my soul into this mixtape, I beared my life, I dedicated myself to sobriety, and God told me that I would be rewarded, and that He would show me just how good it can get."

Cryometer: 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

She went into the Pain Cave with purpose, committed to owning her quirks, and less than 6 months later she's holding a Grammy in front of the legends that she idolizes in her music.

I had tears running down my neck at this point... and I've finally figured out why I've felt like Doechii and I could hang out eating stale popcorn in our PJs.

But just before I finally wiped up my glasses, there was one more speech that rung out the last of my tears...

Chappell Roan: 🏆 Best New Artist

Chappell Roan is one of those artists where when you watch her perform you're like, "What the f*ck is going on?! and why do I enjoy this so much???."

She grew up gay in the midwest, got dumped by her record label, but continued making music while serving Americanos and lattes to coffee monsters.

On accepting her award she brought her journal on stage and read a promise she made to herself.

"I told myself that if I ever won a Grammy and got to stand up here, in front of the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels in the industry profiting millions of dollars off of artists, would offer a liveable wage and healthcare, especially to developing artists....Labels, we got you, but do you got us?"

Cryometer: 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

The metaphorical disco balls on this 26 year old 🪩🪩.

I'm definitely in her Pink Pony Club now 🦄

So why does this matter?

Your cryometer may not look like mine or even exist when it comes to these 3 people. And that's because you have your people that you use the mirror principle with.

The mirror principle is this woo woo idea that our external reality is a reflection of what's going on inside of us.

When we tip our servers a lil' extra for being chill, secretly admire the people close to us, or cry excitement while watching the Grammys–we see and feel what's going on inside of us already.

This is because we are attracted to the qualities we want to have.

Understanding why you're attracted to the things you enjoy consuming can be one of the most powerful and easy ways to get to know yourself.

And why on Earth Saturn does getting to know yourself even matter?

Because the more we know ourselves, the more we understand what our superpowers are that make life way easier and more fun.

Imagine if Spiderman ignored the fact that he got bit by a radioactive spider and lived life without trying to understand why he can stick to walls.

New York would be doomed and my dog wouldn't be named after Toby McGuire.

Tragic.

So here’s a self-work assignment I gave the Well-Beings in our first workshop: Pay attention to when you're inspired by books, podcasts, TV shows, YouTube videos, or people.

What qualities and themes stand out to you?

Are they confident? Fun? Quirky? Gentle? Playful? Creative? Brave? Doers?

⚠️ Spoiler ⚠️

You already have those same qualities within you.

It's just a matter of believing it, then going out and doing Grammy level award winning type sh*t.

Treat your outer world like a mirror. See what it reflects—and start leaning into your superpowers.

✌🏾TTYL✌🏾
