Our first kill in Hawaii 😭

Listen to this email being read from the middle of the Pacific ocean

Yep. Abbey and I just moved to Hawaii over the last weekend and our travels were smooth as miso butterfish. We literally couldn’t have imagined a better outcome.

I’m gonna make a strong point after I blabber through this overly detailed travel adventure, so please don’t skip to the journaling prompt yet and lemme indulge a little.

For starters, shout out to our epic 4am ride share driver for helping us tetris NINE 50lb+ suitcases into his van on the most humid morning of the year in Virginia. The man even transferred everything onto three overly priced airport carts and escorted us to the baggage check-in like we were his nieces. He got a no brainer 5 star review, a massive tip, a fist bump, and a hug.

Hot start. Pun intended.

The actual traveling part was so easy going. We ate well, had a goldilocks amount of time for a layover, and nobody kicked the back of my chair on the plane as I slept with my mouth gaping wide open.

When we landed in Hawaii, I was approached by a gentleman that goes, ā€œSergeant Iriarte?ā€ In hindsight it would’ve been funny to pretend, but that might’ve been disrespectful and maybe little illegal lol.

Turns out we were unexpectedly greeted by Abbey’s biggest bosses with gifts, more of those overly priced airport carts, and another van to shove our entire life into to be delivered at our hotel.

It doesn’t stop there…

We picked up our rental car in minutes, when it’s normally projected to take hours and reuniting with Tobi was a breeze. He’d just landed within an hour of us and all the millions of details for a Hawaii approved entry were accounted for. He was a bit anxious, but overall healthy and very much himself.

And everyone, like e-ver-y-one, was so friendly and helpful the entire way. There was chill island music playing from fake rock speakers at almost all times and of course the weather was perfect.

Abbey and I went to bed giggling and smiling about how unbelievably smooth things went.

I told her I had probably written ā€œsmooth travelsā€ like 7x in my gratitude log. It's getting increasingly hard to deny the magic behind future gratituding… I’m telling you, try it.

So why am I going on and on about this?

Well because I’d totally be sending the wrong message if I said that everything has been completely stressless up until this point.

In fact, we woke up to one of the biggest stressors we’re going to have to deal for the entirety of our stay in Hawaii - bugs.

Specifically....

A ROACH THE SIZE OF MY THUMB ROACHING IN OUR BATHROOM SINK.

We’re talking batman arms and attenas longer than plankton’s.

Despite us being from Guam, we’re HORRIFIED by roaches. Neither of us have the courage to kill them in hand to hand combat so this mother f*cker had us at peak stress for like 3 hours straight.

After pathetic attempts to scare it off by throwing coins into the sink like a wishing well, we ended up brushing our teeth in the kitchen, using the bathroom in the lobby, and experienced our first Hawaiian sunrise on a drive to buy roach spray.

Long story a little shorter, we killed it after showering it with raid for 20 seconds straight. But even then we still left it in the sink for another 3 hours to work up the courage to get it into a trashcan.

So ya, there’s always going to be trouble in paradise.

So long as you want change, growth, or to just start your day on a high note without a roach in the sink, you’re always going to have to adapt to working with your worst nightmares at some point in time without getting completely derailed.

Lastly, here’s a picture of a 2 year old note from a life coaching session that still rings true to this day in all of it’s literal-ness:

And finally, the journaling prompts:

What’s the singular behemoth of a roach that you’re going to have to get used to dealing with to live comfortably?

What can you do to reduce this disgusting stressor that’ll allow you to sleep better at night?

āœŒšŸ¾TTYL!āœŒšŸ¾

Simie

P.S. We’ve since taped over the drain hole and now plug and fill the sinks and the bathtub with water before going to sleep.

P.S.S. I couldn’t imagine having to deal with la cucaracha on my own. If you need help killing your stress inducing roaches, or need some serious extermination in your life, or wanna learn how to just simply keep them at bay, book a call to apply for one of the TWO remaining spots for The Well-Being Program.

(lmao not me pitching with a roach metaphor šŸ˜‚)
