Do you do this before 8am? 🤬

Sent to the clurb · Sep 2024

Picture this,

It’s a quiet beautiful morning, I’m home alone with Tobi, and sipping my fav herbal tea from Trader Joe’s while prepping to film a YouTube video.

I set up my camera, go over my script one last time, test the mic, and lint roll my hoodie just before hitting record.

*clears throat*

I calmly start speaking to the camera and right when I’m in flow I’m interrupted with -

SCREEEEECH!!! hoooooooooonk “F*CK YOU!!!” —— “NO F*CK YOU!!” hooonk SCREEEEEEECH.

Typical road rage right outside of my window and it’s not even 8am.

Since moving from Northern Virginia to Hawaii I haven’t heard anything like that in the last 30 days of being here. Before, I'd hear some sort of commotion like that every 30 min.

There was one dude that just straight up ran a red light pretty badly while we were practically in the intersection. He literally smiled with his teeth and put up a shaka 🤙🏾

Abbey and I giggled and carried on. But not gonna lie, I normally would've honked.

This moment made me realize… what’s the point of road rage? Like why would I want to drag out a moment of seconds into potentially a full blown hour of irritation?

Like why did I lose my sh*t the other day when someone didn’t signal on a turn while I was sitting there waiting for them to pass by?

Honestly, it’s cuz I needed to chill.

Road rage is a choice. A moment to either keep your cool or pop your top off (hmm probably could’ve chose better phrasing for that).

But sometimes we just reflexively snap; because like a toddler, we’re either hungry, tired, or in need of a change.

In the event that I didn't stop my reflexive road rage I recognized right away that I needed to do something to chill. So I literally pulled over, switched seats with Abbey, scarfed down a gas station musubi, put on a sleeping mask (I just bought it lol) and took a nap in the passenger seat.

30 minutes later I felt better than I did before I started raging over an absent signal. Amazing.

I know this email is kinda all over the place - but the point I’m trying to make is that when we’re cranky, raging, homosapiens sometimes all it takes is getting down to the basics.

Are you fed? Are you well rested? Do you need a change?

Here’s a journaling prompt from my life coach that I’ve been keeping on a post it in the back of my mind:

👉🏾 What does my body need right now, in this moment?

Use this for recognize you’re not operating at your best, or when you wanna be, and then actually honor it.

You’ll be surprised at how much better you feel consistently.

✌🏾TTYL!✌🏾

P.S. What’s your biggest pet peeve when driving?

P.S.S. I’m warming up to start making videos again. Reply to this email and lemme know what you wanna see!!
